Four players were present:
- Syala Llian,
Female, Human - Lieutenant L’AckBar,
Male, Mon Calamarian - Gr’rizzlok,
Male, Wookie - Pee-Nihst,
Male, Bith
Gr’rizzlok and L’AckBar are mauled by the fierce felines as Llian and Nihst form a fire line. Claws and fangs begin to battle blasters in a deadly war of attrition. As the Nexu(i) continue their attack, Gr’rizzlok tosses a grenade and takes out the first Nexu, injuring himself and Nihst in the blast. L’AckBar, Llian and Nihst concentrate their fire and, with much effort, take out the second one.
Llian begins to search the perimeter and finds footprints. A short distance away, she spots a body facing down on the ground. Turning him over, Llian discovers the pilot; a dried husk drained of all his blood. Inspecting the body, she finds the transmission tapes and places them in her satchel.
Realizing they stand a better chance if they gather together to take advantage of their combined squad powers (+4 attack and +4 defense), the commando's fortified assault of blasters and grenades quickly blow the Spider to bits. With the Spider defeated and the transmissions recovered, the commandos begin the arduous journey back to the extraction site.
Thoughts on this Session: Four players joined our rebel commandos themed adventure this session. Battling some of the famous feral creatures from the Star Wars Universe, they also solved a mini-mystery. I thought the Giant Spider might be too powerful for them, but they quickly realized their strength was augmented if they fought together as a squad (just like real military tactics). The players fought with a good combo of innovation and humor throughout the session. And L’AckBar even got to use the phrase he was waiting all night to deliver: “It’s a trap!!!”
Rules of Engagement: The figures and fighting stats are from the Star Wars Miniatures game published by Wizards of the Coast in the early 00's. Stats have been slightly modified to give PCs more hp. These will be quick half-hour sessions before our usual monthly D&D session. Players lose some agency, as I explain the scenario (much like the Star Wars movie scroll) and plop them into the action. However, they still get to choose their miniature, name, personality, etc. so there is still a lot of room for role-playing. Each session will feature different characters from across the Star Wars spectrum. Although each session will be a stand-alone chapter, characters will return and storylines will overlap as we see PCs and plots advance. As always, your comments are welcome.
