Editor’s note: This session was run by Jeremy (Usually playing the PC To'Mas). Jumping to the other side of the screen, I will be playing Artemis Dodger.
Examining the surprisingly well organized labyrinth of aisles of shelves, Thodar and Gerald inquire about specific supplies and equipment items they might need for their escape. Yeldon responds to each inquiry by calling out their locations using various letter and number combinations like "Shelf O-57" or "Shelf B-12". After several such call outs, the organizational servant, Yeldon suddenly shouts out: BINGO! He quickly snatches an item out of the Orphan’s hands, Yeldon proclaims that his masters allowed him to keep anything when the correct letters were called. After a few more incidents, The Orphans leave, warning him to stay inside until they escape.
Nyssa manages to take out one with a spell while Kor braces against another Goblin’s attack. The lead Goblin actually manages to knock Kor off his feet as Gerald and Nyssa fight him off. A weakened Kor is escorted by Artemis into the cavernous warehouse while the third Goblin strikes from afar with his crossbow. As Liliana, Gerald, Nyssa, and Thodar defeat the final two Goblins, Thodar loots one of the bodies and finds a potion of healing.
Gerald manages to strike the killing blow against Krejuk while Nyssa has success using a higher-level scroll spell and manages to launch a fireball into Drago, slaying him in a fast draw duel of spells. Panicking over her friend’s demise, Lilliana rushes back to the slain Goblins in the sorting room and locates a potion of healing on each of the bodies. Hurrying back, she is shocked to see that her fallen comrade’s bodies have been covered by two of the Shadow people (see Fight for Freedom). Unsure of their intentions, there is a brief standoff. While they suspiciously and completely envelop the fallen orphans with their leathery wings, they assure the Orphans that they are here to help. Although the children warriors fear for their fallen comrades, they choose to trust the mysterious winged creatures.
Artemis bangs on the door to their chamber and tells them that it is safe to leave. The cooks are reluctant to leave at first, but Artemis warns them that if they stay, the others may kill them. The cooks eventually follow and the Shadow People lead everyone through the caverns to the surface and safety.
Outside of the City, and armed with their basic gear, their wits, and an ancient map of the Continent, they decide to head south towards the Penninsula of Abanisinia. Further guided by the details in a note from an ancient Cleric of Kiri-Jolith, Thadeus Majere who had centuries before stowed away magical items that aided their escape. They decide to follow in his footsteps and head towards the Village of Solace. Unsure of where faith and fate will draw them next.
