Four players were present:
- Tern Basfen,
Male, Mandalorian - Bingo Bango,
Female, Mandalorian - Boba T,
Male, Mandalorian - Tito,
Male, Mandalorian
Suddenly, an Imperial AT-ST approaches from the rear. Tern flies up to the top and forces the hatch open. Unfortunately, his flame-thrower malfunctions, as the two pilots begin to exchange blaster fire with him.
Following Bingo’s lead, Tito and Boba fire their blasters. In an exchange of fire, the flanking Stormtroopers fall, but not before inflicting damage upon the two Mandalorians.
Tern defeats one of the pilots, but the second pilot proves to be tenacious. Tern launches a missile into the cockpit, and the second pilot explodes, coating the interior in a ghastly red. Tern then slips into the cockpit and begins to steer it toward the AT-AT.
Unbeknownst that Tern has captured the AT-ST, the Officer confidently commands it to fire upon the Mandalorians. As the AT-ST’s cannons fire, only a lingering red mist remains of the Officer as the smoke clears.
Climbing upon the platform, Tito stands on the bloodstained spot where the Officer stood and repeats in a mocking voice: “You’ll never defeat the Empire. Destroy them.” Much to the delight of his companions. Approaching the holding cell, a blue beam of light slices the door open, and Princess Cassandra exits her cell wilding a lightsaber.
When the Princess asks why they don’t just fly back, Tern rhetorically asks: “Why should we waste our fuel when we can use the Empire’s?” Loading up on the AT-ST, The Commandos and the Princess begin the slow journey home.
Thoughts on this Session: Four players joined our Mandalorian themed adventure this session. The action was fast and furious. I had originally thought that perhaps the Mandalorians would be too overpowered compared to the Stormtroopers. A combination of poor rolls from the Mandalorians, combined with excellent saves from the Empire served to equalize the battle. The players fought with a good combo of innovation and humor throughout the session. The question remains: who is Princess Cassandra (and is she a Jedi)??? How do all these separate storylines and characters fit together??? Answers will be revealed in upcoming sessions.
Rules of Engagement: The figures and fighting stats are from the Star Wars Miniatures game published by Wizards of the Coast in the early 00's. Stats have been slightly modified to give PCs more hp. These will be quick half-hour sessions before, or after, our usual monthly D&D session. Players lose some agency, as I explain the scenario (much like the Star Wars movie scroll) and plop them into the action. However, they still get to choose their miniature, name, personality, etc. so there is still a lot of room for role-playing. Each session will feature different characters from across the Star Wars spectrum. Although each session will be a stand-alone chapter, characters will return and storylines will overlap as we see PCs and plots advance. As always, your comments are welcome.
