The Heroes agree to safeguard Buttercup and set off through the woods. As they travel, The Heroes notice an actual road opening up. Ironically, they realize that they are traveling on the Great Gnomish Highway (GGH) that Globgums’ arch enemy, Mayor Dudley, had orchestrated (see chapters 2 and 3). Globgums goes into a rage, but is somewhat sated when he realizes that the highway is much faster and alleviates stress on both the calves and arches.
Egnarts comes up with an idea of Lupin using the Baker’s Blade to stab him to regain health. He will then hit her with a lightening strike, insuring that the powerfully defended Knight takes the indefensible radial damage. Buttercup intercedes and volunteers to be stabbed, as she is the strongest one standing. Absorbing hp from Buttercup, Lupin is struck by lightening and the Knight is struck by the radial damage. Meanwhile, Globgums make his saving throw, but Enuff fails his as he slides closer to dying. Buttercup howls in sorrow. Lupin is reduced to zero hp!!! Globgums rolls a twenty and is conscious. Buttercup strikes and lands a mighty blow. An after effect of Egnarts spell damages the Knight just enough to end his cursed existence. Globgums revives Enuff and Egnarts revives Lupin.
