Why you should practice drawing Rust Monsters: Rust Monsters are one of the first original and intellectual properties of D&D. In other words, you really won’t find them in Folk Lore or Mythology. And they can’t be used (at least by name and appearance) in other forms of media without a lawsuit. The funny thing is that it was “invented” when Gygax was rooting through the toy aisles of Dime Stores (the fore runners of Dollar Stores) looking for miniatures he could use in his game. Finding cheap plastic, odd looking “dinosaurs” (affectionately referred to as “Chinasaurs”), he created many of the earliest original monsters for D&D. The artists for the original Monster Manual didn’t even try to disguise the physical shape of the toys. The irony here is that D&D was actually ripping off Chinese rip offs of Japanese Kaiju.
