My secondary goal of this challenge was to encourage people who claim they can’t draw to try. I show a step-by-step progression of each drawing, sometimes using exaggerated geometric shapes, to show people that it really isn’t that difficult. We are all our own harshest critics. And I can assure you, unless you are a savant, your first few efforts will not be your best. I encourage you to purchase a sketchbook. That way you will be able to look back and see the progression of your skills. Seriously, if I can do it, anyone can. Don’t ever let anyone, especially yourself, tell you otherwise.
Another A–Z Challenge has come and gone. All too often, life and its various excuses stand between us and our dreams. I love this challenge simply because it forces me to do what I always dreamed of doing: drawing. I pretty much draw 26 pieces a year, and yet, every year I see vast improvements over the previous years. Imagine what I could accomplish if I practiced more often. My ultimate goal is to produce a comic book/web comic based on my Tales from the Crimson Empire short stories (among others). For that, I really need to concentrate on drawing more humans, clothes, and armor. So for 2024, I am going to concentrate on drawing the Races and Classes of D&D, rather than the Monster Manual. I also hope to produce at least two pieces a month (hopefully one or more a week, but am keeping expectations low).
