Who Are You?
Name/Race/Class:
Garrus Ironside, Dwarf, Devoted Cleric
Note: Garrus originally started as a Cleric and then transitioned to Paladin during the session "Crossroads"
Where are you from (a large Kingdom/small village)? Name?
Part of a large Dwarven kingdom in the silver mountains to the north of a Human settlement known as Southarn. The Kingdom is known by Dwarves as Stromh Gahund. The Ironsides are a once proud clan that serve King Bhaine Gahund, but have since fallen in stature within the ranks due to their embarrassment at the start of the Goblin raids.
Social Class (Royalty/merchant/farmer/pauper):
The Ironsides are a military clan, but Garrus chose a different path when he split off and became part of a religious sect that helps to advise the king. He is the first Ironside since his great great great great great great great great great Grandfather to serve outside of formal military services for the King.
Where did you get your training/equipment?:
Garrus received religious training from the House of Kord which included rune casting and devotion rituals. His armor and weapons (except the quarterstaff) were handed down due to the death of a brother killed in the Goblin raids. He was also taught in a military fighting style by two other brothers. Garrus did not become proficient in military fighting, but has learned enough to hold his own much better than any typical devoted cleric.
Appearance (Handsome/beautiful/average/ugly):
He is an average looking pale-skinned mountain Dwarf with black hair cut into a topknot with a beard braided into three sections composed of a longer middle section braided at the very end housed between two smaller braids.
Weapons (Pristine/tarnished/well used):
Fairly pristine, but some battle wear due to their use during the Goblin raids.
Clothes (Pristine/fancy/exotic/average/well worn):
Mostly pristine looking dark grey chain mail adorned with gold that features rune carvings of Kord along with some worn scuffs from battle. The set was crafted by the finest blacksmiths from the Greyblade clan.
Appearance:
Garrus is 82 years old, stands 4’5”, weighs 200 lbs and appears more muscular than your typical cleric. He has tattooed marks over the corner of each eye of a lighting bolt as if it is striking through the eye as well as Dwarven runic tattoos on his chest and arms.
Flaw:
Has a bit of a Dwarf superiority ego when it comes to craftsmanship and the way of the world which can manifest as strong annoyance, or sometimes anger, when another race does something on par or better than a Dwarf can. He also, on occasion, has a drinking problem.
Why Are You Here?
Were you sent because you are the (best/worst)?:
I was the Ironside that chose a different path from my clan and who is free to travel the lands without having to be in constant daily ritual service of our king, but my mission is to provide news of the outside empires and the happenings in the outside world.
Additionally, Garrus is motivated to find a weapon to present to King Bhaine that can restore the honor of the Ironside name.
Did you (Volunteer/Take someone’s place/Just saw people gathering and thought you could get a free meal)?:
Garris was in a tavern in a village several weeks outside of Strohm Gahund and was impressed with stories from the group as they traveled through the village I was also passing through.
Name a living loved one (Family/friend/lover? Race/class):
My two remaining brothers: Garrin (Paladin) and Gorrin (Sentinel - our Kingdom's elite military guard).
Name an enemy (Who/Why? Race/class)
Goblins (all), but specifically the Zox tribe. Gnar Zox was the infiltrator that was able to trick a great grandfather into opening a small passageway
Name of a friend/family/loved one who died (How? Race/Class):
Garrud, my eldest brother who was a Dwarf Sentinel that fought in the Goblin raid wars and died as part of an elite unit charged with protecting the Gahund treasure room containing a sacred treasure that is said can destroy mountains just from being powered by a single breath of its user.
Racial hate (Humans/Orcs/Vampires/etc.)? Why?
Goblins due to the damage done to the family name and being a long standing enemy of the Kingdom of Gahund. Also a hatred to anything that looks goblin-like.
Who Do You Serve?
Since this is set in quasi-medieval times, chances are you were brought up in some religion. Please pick an appropriate God/religion for your character from the handbook.
Religion/God you were brought up with/converted to:
Brought up in a clan that worshiped Kord as the principal deity.
Religion/God you practice now:
Kord
How strong is your belief (Zealot/strong/average/weak/atheist)? Why?
Strong, but not fanatical. There are many Dwarven gods that are observed, but Kord has been the provider of the Ironside clan for centuries.
